SUNGAI SIPUT: A bridge is more than just a means of connecting; it is a vital part of residents’ daily lives.
Concerned about the safety of residents in Taman Yik King, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has approved an allocation of RM500,000 to upgrade the bridge in the area.
The project involves replacing the old iron bridge with a concrete structure and installing safety railings and solar-powered streetlights to improve user comfort and safety.
The upgrade is expected to benefit more than 100 families who use the route daily for work, school and other activities.

Jalong assemblyman Loh Sze Yee, in a Facebook post, said efforts to address issues involving the bridge began last year after receiving complaints from residents over the safety of the ageing structure.
He said several site visits had been conducted, along with coordination efforts involving relevant parties, to find a long-term solution.
“Last year, emergency repair works were carried out to ensure the bridge remained safe for public use while awaiting the implementation of the full upgrading project,” the statement said.

He also stressed that the safety of public access routes should never be taken lightly as it directly affects the wellbeing of the local community.
At the same time, appreciation was extended to Nga for his continued support towards infrastructure development and public welfare in Sungai Siput.
The government’s commitment in resolving community issues in stages reflects its priority in safeguarding the wellbeing of the people, especially within local communities.
