Integrated operation on the homeless and destitute, sees 19 individuals detained

IPOH: A total of 19 individuals identified as homeless and destitute around Ipoh city were brought to the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) for further appropriate action.

The individuals were picked up during an Integrated Operation to Address Homelessness and Destitution carried out by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) on Wednesday, together with several related agencies.

In a statement, MBI said the operation was conducted at three main locations identified as gathering spots for the group.

The operation, which ran from 9 am until 2.30 pm, involved several key locations, including Jalan Foo Yet Kai, the area near The Store supermarket, Jalan C.M. Yusuff, in front of Olympia College, as well as the vicinity of Pasar Besar Ipoh and UTC Ipoh.

“The enforcement team and MBI special action team worked together with Yayasan Kebajikan Negara Negeri Perak, JKM Kinta district, the Kinta district office of the National Anti-Drug Agency, the Kinta district health office and the Royal Malaysia Police.

“From the total number detained, one individual tested positive for morphine, while another was taken in by Yayasan Kebajikan Negara and brought to Anjung Singgah for shelter and further assistance,” the statement said.

The operation resulted in 19 individuals being identified and action taken against them, involving 10 individuals at Jalan Foo Yet Kai, five at Jalan C.M. Yusuff and four around Pasar Besar Ipoh and UTC Ipoh.

MBI said such integrated efforts would continue from time to time to ensure public wellbeing, environmental cleanliness and public safety in Ipoh remain safeguarded.
