Operating Joss Stick Factory Without a Valid Licence

Four individuals were arrested on Friday (June 4) for operating a joss stick factory with an expired licence at Sungai Siput (U).

According to the State Forestry Department (JPNPk), the factory’s operating licence has not been renewed since its expiration on June 30 last year.

“After monitoring and checking the activity of wood-based factories around Sungai Siput (U), enforcement units from Ipoh and the Kuala Kangsar Forest District have arrested four individuals: two citizens who are the owner and an employee respectively, and another two non-citizen workers of the joss stick factory.

“Four wood grinders, four silos, a wood chopper, a wood chipper and five short wood piles were seized during the raid and capture operation.

“A police report has been lodged at the Sungai Siput (U) Police Station. All four suspects were released on police bail after their statements were recorded,” the department explained in a statement dated today (June 6).

It added that investigations are ongoing and the suspects are liable to an offence under the Wood-Based Industries Enactment (EIBK) for operating a factory without a valid licence.
