RM1 Million for drainage and pond upgrades to tackle flash floods in Ipoh Timor

By Zaki Salleh

IPOH: The issue of frequent flash floods in several areas within the Ipoh Timor parliamentary constituency will be addressed through the upgrading of outdated drainage systems and the construction of retention ponds.

This follows an allocation of nearly RM1,000,000 for works that will be carried out in the near future.

The allocation was approved by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) through the Ipoh City Council (MBI).

Ipoh Timor Member of Parliament, Howard Lee, announced that a site visit was conducted with MBI officials, covering areas in the Pasir Pinji and Tebing Tinggi State Legislative Assembly constituencies.

He said the proposal to upgrade the outdated drainage system and enhance the Mandarin Garden retention pond is part of flood mitigation efforts.

“The works include cleaning existing open drainage systems (for non-reserved drains), upgrading open drains to concrete drains (for reserved drains), and enhancing existing retention ponds.

“These works will cover areas starting from Mandarin Garden through Kampung (Kg) Pasir Puteh and extending to the pump house (outlet) at Kg Sri Kinta.

“This is expected to reduce the risk of flooding in the flood-prone areas around this region,” he said in a social media post.

He also expressed gratitude to KPKT Minister, Nga Kor Ming, for approving the allocation and to MBI for implementing the project.

“This is certainly good news for the local residents who have been waiting for such works to be carried out for a long time,” he said.
