IPOH: The Perak state government is strengthening the role of institutions of higher learning (IPT) in driving socio-economic development with the launch of the PEMIKIR Higher Learning Institutions Council (Majlis IPT), aimed at realising the aspirations of Perak Sejahtera 2030.

The event, officiated by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, also saw the handing over of a RM200,000 Care Economy Content Development Grant, jointly funded by the state through the Institut Darul Ridzuan (IDR) and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI).

A total of five UPSI researchers were selected to receive the grant following a transparent screening process by the university’s Research Management and Innovation Centre (RMIC), together with IDR.

The grant will support the development of content focusing on the care economy, including community well-being, elderly care, healthcare and social innovation.

The Majlis IPT initiative is also a continuation of the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Summit x PEMIKIR Darul Ridzuan, serving as a platform to bring together academic experts to contribute ideas and expertise towards shaping state development policies.

Also present were State Financial Officer Datuk Mohd Zaki Mahyuddin, UPSI Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff, and IDR chief executive officer Dr Maisarah Ahmad.

The state government hopes that through this initiative, stronger collaborations can be forged between academia and the state to bolster policies centred on the people’s well-being and sustainable development under Perak Sejahtera 2030.
