The Polo Ground recently came alive as 400 participants turned up for Walk Against Obesity 4.0, held in conjunction with World Obesity Day. The strong turnout shows a growing community push towards healthier lifestyles and greater awareness around obesity.
The event commenced with opening speeches by Organising Chairman Dr Satkunan Mark, Consultant General and Bariatric Surgeon of Hospital Fatimah.
This was followed by remarks from Dr Liaw Kok Toon, Medical Director of Hospital Fatimah, and Dr Monesh Pillai, Chairman of MMA Perak, who each emphasised the importance of community engagement in combating obesity and promoting overall well-being.


The walk was officially flagged off by Dr Satkunan Mark, alongside Dr Liaw Kok Toon, Ms Poh Bee Kuan, Chief Operating Officer of Hospital Fatimah, Dr Monesh Pillai, Chairman of MMA Perak, Dr Suretheran Kirsnan, Secretary of MMA Perak, and members of MMA Perak.
Participants enjoyed a lively and interactive walk route featuring activity stations such as banana-eating challenges, engaging exercise sessions, and hydration stops encouraging water intake.
In addition to the walk, attendees benefited from a range of health-focused offerings, including a free basic health screening booth and a physiotherapy booth providing posture and gait assessments.


The event also featured a vehicle showcase by Proton, as well as various food and beverage stalls, creating a vibrant and family-friendly atmosphere.
Following the walk, participants took part in a fun telematch session, fostering community spirit and active family participation.
Walk Against Obesity 4.0 continues to serve as a meaningful platform to raise awareness on obesity while encouraging healthier lifestyle choices among the public.
