IPOH — Around 150 people turned up as donors in a blood donation programme organised by Pertubuhan Kebajikan Insan Murni Perak in collaboration with RELA Zone Buntong.

The initiative was held to help replenish blood supplies at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB).

Now in its fourth year, the programme received an encouraging response from the local community.

RELA Zone Buntong Liaison Chief and also Chairman of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Insan Murni Perak, Gajendran A/L Krishana, said the programme was organised as part of efforts to support hospitals currently facing a shortage of blood supply.

He said public awareness on the importance of blood donation must continue to be strengthened, as every bag of blood can help save a patient’s life.

“Blood supply at HRPB is decreasing, and that is why the community needs to come forward and support programmes like this.

“Blood donation is a very meaningful contribution as it can help save the lives of those who require emergency treatment or surgery,” he said.

He also hoped more parties would step forward to collaborate to ensure such welfare programmes can continue in the future.

The programme also received cooperation from Colours of India, which helped make the event a success.

Among those present were Chairman of the Kinta Ipoh Social, Sports and Cultural Welfare Association, P. Uvarajan; Deputy Officer of RELA Kinta Utara District, Radzuan Ramly; and RELA Zone Buntong adviser, Sahul Hamid.

Organisers said the strong turnout reflected growing public awareness of the importance of blood donation in helping those in need.
