IPOH: The sacrifices, resilience and dedication of mothers were celebrated when four inspiring women from different backgrounds received recognition at the Mother’s Day 2026 celebration organised by the Perak Caring Association (PCA).

PCA president Pathma Devi said the annual celebration was not only about commemorating Mother’s Day but also served as a platform to appreciate women who play multiple roles in life while actively contributing to society.

She said this year marked the fifth anniversary of the association under her leadership, with the event themed around recognising women as the backbone of families and communities.

“A mother does not only raise children, but also carries many responsibilities as a teacher, wife, daughter, mother-in-law and grandmother at the same time.

“Women wear many ‘hats’ and shoulder countless responsibilities in their daily lives,” she said during the Mother’s Day 2026 celebration here.

Pathma said PCA selects inspiring mothers from different ethnic backgrounds each year for their careers, sacrifices, and contributions to the community.

“We want to recognise women who prove that mothers are not only strong within the family institution, but are also active in helping society,” she said.

Among the recipients was Administrative and Diplomatic Officer Srihartini Mohamed Shamsudin, who currently serves as Chief Assistant District Officer (Land).

She has more than 20 years of experience in public service and has actively contributed to various women, youth and community development programmes, including leading operations involving the homeless during the Movement Control Order period.

Another recipient, Puvaneswari Narayanasamy, is a former banker who lost her hearing at the age of 19 but overcame life’s challenges and became actively involved in welfare work.

She successfully raised more than RM32,000 for paediatric cancer patients and stray animal welfare initiatives, while also organising 49 pet adoption drives since 2021.

Mrs Rubavathy George Joseph was also honoured for her nine years of service with PCA and her achievements as a law firm administrator.

Meanwhile, Puan Chiew Yit Wan received recognition for her active involvement in charity initiatives, including organising charitable hair-cut programmes for the underprivileged.

Pathma expressed hope that the programme would inspire more women to continue contributing to their families and communities despite life’s challenges.
