IPOH: A 50 per cent discount on traffic compounds for one month, free parking across Ipoh city and complimentary boat rides at Gunung Lang Recreational Park are among special “gifts” for city folk in conjunction with Ipoh City’s 38th Anniversary celebrations.

The Ipoh City Council (MBI) is also offering free access to sports facilities at the MBI Sports Complex as part of a series of people-friendly incentives and programmes running throughout June to early July.

The 50 per cent reduction in traffic compound fines will run for one month from June 18 to July 18, 2026.

Meanwhile, free parking in selected areas across Ipoh and complimentary access to MBI sports facilities will be available from June 19 to 21, while free boat tickets at Gunung Lang Recreational Park will be offered from June 22 to 24.

The incentives were announced during the launch of the Ipoh City 38th Anniversary Programme Calendar, which carries the theme “Menjulang Aspirasi, Bandar Raya Bestari” (Uplifting Aspirations, Smart City).

The celebration features a wide range of community, sports, awareness and sales programmes aimed at celebrating Ipoh’s transformation alongside its residents.

Among the main highlights is the Ipoh City 38th Anniversary Launch Carnival at the Ipoh Convention Centre (ICC) on June 18, which will also feature the Perak Smart City Colloquium 2026 and Rahmah Sales initiative.

The Pop Up Market X Pekan Pop Up programme will also run from June 18 to 21 at ICC, while a citywide Cheap Sale Carnival at selected supermarkets around Ipoh is scheduled from June 26 to July 3.

Recreational and sporting events are also part of the line-up, including colouring contests, petanque, fishing competitions, traditional archery and picnic decoration contests.

The highlight of the celebrations is expected to take place at the end of June with the Ipoh Low Carbon Day and Picnic Decoration Contest, promoting environmental awareness, healthy lifestyles and stronger community spirit.

MBI reminded that all dates, times and venues are subject to change from time to time.
