IPOH: Restoration works on the iconic IPOH sign overlooking the Gunung Lang area are set to begin on July 13 and are expected to be completed by August 6.
In a statement, the Ipoh City Council (MBI) said the refurbishment forms part of its ongoing efforts to ensure the city’s assets and landmarks remain in good and safe condition.
The initiative also reflects Ipoh’s image as a clean, beautiful and liveable tourism destination, it said.

According to MBI, the works will involve dismantling the existing IPOH lettering structure, carrying out repairs and refurbishment works, before reinstalling the structure at the site.
“The work schedule is as follows: July 13 will involve bringing a crane onto the site, while the dismantling of the IPOH structure will take place from July 14 to 15.
“Repair and restoration works will then be carried out from July 15 until August 3, followed by the reinstallation of the IPOH sign from August 4 to 6,” the statement said.
MBI has urged members of the public, particularly road users and residents around the Gunung Lang area, to cooperate and take note of the works throughout the duration of the project.
Previously, an MBI councillor had indicated that replacement works for the iconic IPOH sign were expected to be carried out in 2026 following visible deterioration of the structure.
The damage to the landmark has become increasingly noticeable, particularly to motorists entering Ipoh via the highway.
