IPOH: The Perak state government has prepared 2,000 tourism vouchers, each worth RM40, to encourage tourists to stay longer and explore more destinations in the state.
State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said the Perak Stay & Explore initiative is open to tourists who stay at least one night in Perak.
He said the vouchers could be redeemed through registered travel agencies and tourism associations, hotels, and tourism-related products and operators.
“We want tourists visiting Ipoh not to see Ipoh as just one destination.
“They should continue their journey to Kuala Kangsar, Taiping, Lenggong, Gopeng, Kuala Sepetang, Pangkor and other destinations throughout Perak,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the 2026 Perak State-level Merdeka Eve Celebration at the Sultan Azlan Shah Roundabout in Meru last night.
Loh said the initiative was not merely aimed at attracting tourists to Perak but also encouraging them to stay longer, explore more places and spend more within the state.
He said tourists were also encouraged to sample local food, stay at local hotels, purchase local products and participate in tourism activities.
“At the same time, we want the benefits of increased tourism to also reach local operators and communities.
“That is the objective of Perak Stay & Explore — not merely inviting tourists to visit and stop by, but encouraging them to stay longer and experience Perak more deeply,” he said.
