Kuala Lumpur: The flood situation that hit several states across the country also affected candidates for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exam  2022.

In a media statement today, the Malaysian Ministry of Education (KPM) said that it is always aware of the current situation and is prepared with standard operating procedures and appropriate preparatory measures to ensure that the SPM examination 2022 can proceed smoothly and in an orderly manner.

The management of the conduct of the 2022 SPM examination in a flood situation is carried out following the preparation circular for dealing with floods that threaten the course of the examination (Umbrella Operation) No. 1/2001.

According to the statement, heavy rain continued on March 1, 2023, and as many as 17 examination centres in the states of Johor, Pahang and Sarawak were affected.

“Out of that number, seven examination centres could not be opened due to disconnection and the roads could not be passed by all types of vehicles.

“In Johor and Pahang, a total of 195 candidates were affected by the flood but managed to be moved to nearby examination centres with the help of government agencies, to sit for the examination.

“Meanwhile, a total of 431 candidates were stranded in the flood and could not attend the scheduled examination centre or a nearby examination centre.

“The MoE through the Examinations Board (LP) is gathering detailed information about the candidates involved and the rescheduling of the SPM exam 2022 will be implemented for all 431 candidates,” he said.

All candidates for the SPM examination 2022 are also advised to inform the school or the State Education Department (JPN) immediately if they are stranded in a flood and cannot attend the designated examination centre or any nearby examination centre.

Candidates can also contact the flood action room hotlines provided at LP and JPN headquarters throughout the country.

Exam rescheduling will be implemented for the candidate after getting confirmation from the State Education Director.
