The Ministry of Education (MoE) allows students, teachers and school administrators to wear decent clothes or sportswear due to the current hot weather.
The new ruling was issued through a circular and notification signed by the Deputy Director General of Education, Dr. Norisah Suhaili effective immediately yesterday.
The circular titled ‘Special Permission for Students, Teachers and Executive Members to Wear Sportswear During Hot Weather’ was also distributed to all Heads of Divisions and State Education Directors.
Norisah said that the decision was made after taking into account the conditions during the hot weather and to avoid any health complications.
According to her, this special permission does not burden students and parents because students have their clothes or sports shirts.
“The Ministry of Education and Culture always emphasizes the welfare, health and safety of students, teachers and members of the implementation group when facing the prolonged hot and dry weather that has hit the country.
“This phenomenon is climate diversity (climax viability) that occurs irregularly.
“The hot weather conditions that occur can trigger heat waves that are harmful to health such as hyperthermia or heat stroke and dehydration,” she said.
She said principals and head teachers are reminded to constantly monitor the weather conditions from time to time so that action can be taken immediately to ensure the health of students, teachers and members of the implementation group.
Previously, the MoE through a separate circular informed that school administrators are allowed to close schools if the daily temperature status for hot weather is at warning level 2 with the highest temperature exceeding 37 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days.
The decision is enshrined in the guidelines set by the MoE following the current hot weather situation in several locations across the country.
In addition, all outdoor activities should be stopped if the daily temperature status for hot weather is at the first warning level with the highest temperature exceeding 35 to 37 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days.
