A free community yoga event will take place on Sunday, 22 June 2025, in conjunction with the 11th International Day of Yoga. Titled “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” the session will be held at SJK(C) Chung Tack Hall in Kg Simee. Open to all ages, the event invites the community to experience yoga as a simple step toward better health and more mindful living.

First proposed by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and adopted by the United Nations in 2014, the International Day of Yoga is now celebrated worldwide each June to coincide with the summer solstice. The day recognises yoga as a powerful practice that helps us reconnect with ourselves, with one another and with the natural world.

Yoga, after all, comes from the Sanskrit word “yuj”, meaning to unite. This year’s theme, One Earth, One Health, emphasises the connection between personal well-being, collective responsibility and the health of our environment

Across the globe, communities are rolling out their mats in parks, schools, temples and embassies. Many are combining yoga sessions with tree-planting, health screenings and clean-up efforts. From the biodiverse parks of India to wellness centres in Myanmar and Hungary, this year’s global celebrations reflect a shared intention to care for both inner and outer ecosystems.

Ipoh’s own gathering follows this spirit. Organised by the Brahma Kumaris Foundation (Ipoh Branch) with support from the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur, the event brings together experienced yoga facilitators, wellness partners and the local community for a purposeful morning.

Leading the sessions will be:

  • Thevagi Narayanan, founder of Yogasanaz Wellbeing Centre, known for her healing based approach to yoga, rope wall therapy and energy work
  • Jesy Chan, co-founder of Yemaya Life Yoga Studio in Ipoh, who obtained a 200-hour internationally certified yoga teacher diploma and initially began teaching yoga full-time in 2013.
  • Steven Leong, veteran instructor from IL Studio, who teaches with classical insight and care
  • BK Jothi Rajah, Senior Raja Yoga teacher and founding member of Brahma Kumaris Malaysia, bringing decades of experience in meditation and inner clarity
