IPOH: The compassion of Ipoh residents for the victims of the bus accident in Gerik—who are currently receiving treatment—was evident as many came forward to donate blood at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) Blood Transfusion Centre.
In the tragic incident, a bus carrying 42 students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) veered off the road, resulting in deaths and injuries.
Yesterday, a total of 370 concerned individuals came forward to donate blood. However, only 336 were deemed eligible to donate.
People from various races and backgrounds participated in the blood donation drive to help ensure there was enough supply at HRPB.
The donated blood is also needed for treating other patients who require transfusions.
Among those who came forward were groups such as police and military personnel, as well as college students.
The walk-in turnout caused some congestion, but the HRPB Transfusion Centre staff managed the situation efficiently.
One of the donors was Chenderoh State Assemblyman, Syed Lukman Hakim.
Meanwhile, Ipoh Timor Member of Parliament, Howard Lee, also showed his support by engaging with the public who came to donate blood.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Howard praised the generosity of Ipoh residents, noting that some even traveled from outside of Perak to donate.
“Thank you for your compassion and generosity in donating blood to help those in need.
“Blood supply is always in demand, and we need more donors to ensure there is enough to meet ongoing needs,” he said.
