MBI continues ‘Back to Basics’ approach to enhance the well-being of city residents

By Zaki Salleh

IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) will continue to prioritise its “Back to Basics” approach as the cornerstone of public service delivery to residents.

The approach focuses on essential municipal services, including efficient waste management, well-maintained landscaping, road and drainage maintenance, regular grass cutting, and ensuring streetlights are functioning properly.

MBI is also committed to ensuring that public amenities remain clean, safe and user-friendly for the comfort and convenience of city residents.

Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah said basic services are the aspects of governance closest to people’s daily lives and serve as the key benchmark of a local authority’s effectiveness.

He said the approach was in line with Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad’s emphasis that the success of a government should be measured by what the people experience, rather than merely what they read.

“At the same time, MBI will continue strengthening community well-being through various programmes that promote healthy lifestyles and foster unity.

“Efforts to enhance public spaces and organise community-based activities will also remain among the city’s key priorities,” he said during the launch of the 38th Ipoh City Day celebration.

The event was attended by Saarani and Perak Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Sandrea Ng.

With a population exceeding 880,000, Ipoh continues to grow as a heritage city and a centre for tourism, economic activity and culture, while placing emphasis on the daily experiences and well-being of its residents.

Zamakhshari said MBI also aims to make Ipoh a more organised, attractive and competitive destination through the development of its tourism and economic sectors.

He added that the city’s strengths in heritage, food, architecture, nature, culture and local creativity would continue to be highlighted as key attractions.

MBI also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting traders, hawkers, local entrepreneurs and the business community to ensure the city’s economy continues to expand.

“The growth of the tourism sector and business activities is expected to create more economic opportunities and increase incomes for the people.

“MBI would also like to remind everyone that Ipoh’s success as a city over the past 38 years is the result of close cooperation between the authorities and the community,” he said.
