IPOH: A total of 30 participants showcased their creativity in transforming open spaces into picturesque ‘Boho Garden Picnic’ settings during the Deko Piknik programme, which marked the finale of Ipoh City’s 38th anniversary celebration at Dataran Bandaraya Ipoh recently.
Held for the second consecutive year, the programme served as the closing event of the city’s anniversary celebration while highlighting the community’s creativity in beautifying public spaces through environmentally friendly decorative elements.
Participants were given two hours, beginning at 8 am, to decorate a 10-by-15-foot space based on the ‘Boho Garden Picnic’ theme.

Judging focused on several key criteria, including modern bohemian concepts, the use of greenery and floral elements, relaxed and aesthetic layouts, creativity in decorative materials, as well as family-friendly and recreational features.
In line with the Ipoh Bestari Sejahtera vision, participants were also encouraged to use decorations that were creative, safe, neat and environmentally friendly throughout the competition.

Entries were evaluated by a three-member panel led by Ipoh City Council (MBI) Corporate Department senior assistant director Faridah Abdul Aziz, alongside MBI Town Planning assistant director Anis Zulaikha Ahmad Kamal and Sin Chew Daily representative Lau Zhen Huan.
Roadway to Heaven emerged as the champion, taking home RM1,000 in cash. DecoByMakcik.Co finished second to win RM750, while Khayra Florist secured third place with RM500.

Participants who placed fourth to seventh each received RM200 in cash prizes.
The prizes were presented by MBI Councillor Clr. Zuraidah Zakaria, who also officiated the lucky draw, with D’Picnic Vibes winning the grand prize.
Jointly organised by the Quantity Surveying and Procurement Unit, the Public-Private Partnership Unit and the Ipoh Doughnut Economy Secretariat, the programme not only provided a platform to showcase the creativity of Ipoh residents but also promoted family recreation, sustainable decorative practices and the creative enhancement of public spaces.
